About St. Barnabas Hospital

St. Barnabas Hospital is a not-for-profit, nonsectarian, acute care community hospital and Level I Trauma Center located in the heart of the central Bronx.  With 461 beds, 1,500 births, 25,000 admitted patients, and 500,000 networked outpatient visits each year, the hospital is a valuable resource for its community.  Its Regional Trauma Center treats the most critically and severely injured patients, and it has a full-time and fully staffed Emergency Room and Pediatric emergency services.

Approximately 280 resident physicians staff St. Barnabas Hospital.  Together with attending doctors, nursing staff and ancillary staff, they represent the front line of health care in the Bronx.  Resident physicians are full-time employees and have received their M.D., D.O., D.D.S. or D.P.M. from an accredited medical, dental and podiatry school.  They spend several years working full-time at the hospital (up to 80 hours a week) while also completing their post-degree specialty training.  Residents provide care in the programs of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Dermatology, Family Practice, Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Podiatry, and Osteopathic Medicine and Manipulation, as well as the country’s largest hospital-based general practice dental residency program.
